Because emotionally traumatic experiences are characterized by their unpredictable, uncontrollable, and overwhelming nature, complete prevention is impossible. Accidents, combat stress, violent crime, and sexual assaults are clearly not something you can anticipate and avoid. At the same time, always striving to maintain a strong support system of family and friends and practicing good emotional health on a regular basis can potentially help you better handle emotional trauma if it occurs.
