Is gene therapy available to treat genetic disorders?

Gene therapy has not yet been approved as a safe treatment for genetic disorders and other conditions. It is now only available if you participate in one of the many research studies (clinical trials) being conducted to test its safety and effectiveness. If you are interested in enrolling in a study, ask your doctor for information about studies in your area. You can also access information online. The National Institutes of Health has a wWeb site that offers information about current studies.
