How long will it take to feel better once I start taking rabeprazole?

Although rabeprazole starts doing its job within an hour of taking the first dose, you may not feel that your symptoms have improved for several days. This is because rabeprazole has to “turn off” the proton pumps of the acid-producing cells in the stomach, and it is not able to turn off all proton pumps immediately. If you are taking rabeprazole once a day, you should be feeling much better within about five days. If your symptoms of reflux are severe, your doctor may decide to put you on rabeprazole twice a day for a few days, then reduce your dose to a once-a-day dose that is taken before breakfast.
