How should I cut my toenails?

A doctor usually gives the following advice for cutting toenails:
  • Cut your toenails short and straight across. 
  • File down any thick areas of the nail. 
  • Never use the same clipper or file on healthy nails and infected nails, as you may spread a fungal infection this way.
  • If you get a pedicure at a nail salon, bring your own tools from home.
