Can athlete's foot be prevented?

Dr. Jeanne Morrison, PhD
Family Practitioner

You can take steps to prevent athlete's foot:

• Dry your feet carefully after bathing, especially between your toes.
• Wear clean, dry socks and shoes.
• Avoid going barefoot in public places such as shared showers or locker rooms.
• Do not share socks or shoes, as that can spread infection.
• Avoid plastic or rubber shoes that don't allow the foot to breathe.
• Consider using an antifungal powder daily.
