How do other illnesses affect a carcinoid tumor?

Other illnesses may be contributing factors in developing a carcinoid tumor. For example, people with gastritis, an inflammation of the stomach lining, have a greater risk of developing a carcinoid tumor. Illnesses that affect the stomach's ability to produce the correct amount of stomach acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, also increase the chances of developing a carcinoid tumor.
