What should I know about Carbaglu before taking it?

Carbaglu may be harmful to a fetus and may be passed to a nursing infant through breast milk. Studies have not been conducted in humans, and it is not recommended that this drug be used by pregnant or nursing mothers. At the start of treatment, people taking this drug must restrict their protein intake. When their plasma ammonia is normal, they may reintroduce protein to their diet. Plasma ammonia levels will be monitored during the course of treatment. This condition, called hyperammonemia, can cause brain damage or death if not controlled.
