Emphysema can be an incredibly frustrating disease. It may prevent you from doing things you love, and it might be difficult for your loved ones to understand what you're going through. You may find it helpful to join a support group for people who are suffering from emphysema. Not only will you be able to connect with people who can relate to what you are going through, but they also might be able to give you insight into new treatment options or different ways of handling your disease. If you are interested in joining a support group, contact the American Lung Association to find one near you.

Surgical treatment by cutting out damaged portions of the lungs and reducing lung volume is also effective.
