Certain ear disorders can be cured. Most ear infections resolve on their own or clear up with antibiotic therapy. A perforated eardrum may require surgery, or it may heal itself. Inner ear disorders may be more difficult to cure. Often, the focus instead is on treating the symptoms of these diseases. Hearing loss is often incurable, as the hearing mechanisms inside the ear cannot regenerate once they have been damaged.
