Loop diuretics remove sodium and water from the body, acting on a part of the kidney called the Loop of Henle. They are among the strongest diuretics and are usually part of the standard medical treatment for people with heart failure. Several loop diuretics are available in the US. These include bumetanide (Bumex), ethacrynic acid (Edecrin), furosemide (Lasix), and torsemide (Demadex).
