Methylene blue is not used as a single agent to treat urinary tract infections. However, there are two combination products that include methylene blue which are used to treat the symptoms associated with urinary tract infections. One product is methylene blue, plus methenamine, phenyl salicylate, hyoscyamine and benzoic acid, which is available as Prosed D/S tablets. The other is methylene blue, plus methenamine, phenyl salicylate, hyoscyamine and sodium biphosphate which is available as Urelle, Urimar-T and Utira-C tablets. Each combination works as a mild antiseptic, killing bacteria in the urinary tract and relieving the symptoms caused by the bacteria.
