Why won’t my child snap out of his bad mood?

Depression is more than just a bad mood and is not something that a child can "snap out of." Depression is a brain illness that can affect how your child thinks, feels, and acts. The mood disorder needs to be treated to get better. Treatment for childhood depression often involves psychotherapy ("talk therapy"). Medication may also be needed to help ease depression symptoms.
