What is Zocor used for?

Zocor (simvastatin) is a medication that helps reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides (a type of blood fat), raise HDL (good) cholesterol and lower the risk of heart attack, stroke and death. It can also help prevent the need for artery-clearing surgery to improve blood flow, as well as treat an inherited form of high cholesterol in children ages 10 to 17. Known as a statin, it helps slow down the liver’s production of cholesterol so it’s less likely to build up inside of artery walls and cause a blockage. Like all statins, Zocor is intended to be used along with a healthy diet, weight loss and exercise.
