The pain of Achilles tendinitis is sometimes accompanied by swelling or stiffness that worsens with exercise. To prevent this problem, do warm-up stretches before you exercise. Also, make sure your shoes fit properly. An athletic shoe that digs into your heel or provides little support is an invitation to trouble.
