Who can be a carrier for autosomal recessive genetic disorders?

It is estimated that everyone is a carrier for 5-20 autosomal recessive disorders but are just unaware of which specific ones.  The reason we do not know that we are carriers for these disorders is because we have no symptoms and we most likely have no family history.  It is also helpful to remember that autosomal recessive disorders do not common occur because first, two people who are carriers for the same disorder have to have children together and second, it is a 1 in 4, or 25% chance, with each pregnancy that they will then have an affected child.
