Arthroplasty is defined as the surgical repair, by realignment or reconstruction, of a joint. Knee arthroplasty is the surgical repair of the knee. Most commonly, knee arthroplasty involves the replacement of the damaged joint with artificial components. 

Knee arthroplasty is a surgical procedure used to alleviate pain once the cartilage in the knee wears out.
