What should seniors know before using Benicar HCT?

Before you take the blood pressure medication Benicar HCT (olmesartan and hydrochlorothiazide), you should know that being elderly is not a factor in whether your doctor can safely prescribe the drug to you. Research has not indicated that older people respond differently to this medication than do others. However, as a precaution, your doctor may start you on a low dose, particularly if you take other medications, have other illnesses or have problems with your heart, liver or kidneys.
