What are the side effects of paregoric?

Paregoric can cause serious side effects. Call your doctor without delay if you develop the following while taking this medication: shallow or weak breathing; faintness; erratic, rapid or pounding heartbeat; scant or absent urine; severe stomach cramps; constipation; bloating; or seizures. Call 911 for emergency medical help if you notice symptoms of an allergic reaction, including hives or swollen throat, face, lips or tongue. Less severe side effects include: lack of appetite; upset stomach; vomiting; constipation; stomach pain; sleepiness or fatigue; dizziness; restlessness; sweating; or warm, red or tingling skin. Talk to your doctor if any of these symptoms persist or become severe.
