What is gabapentin?

Gabapentin (Gralise, Horizant, Neurontin) is a drug that was developed to treat epilepsy. It is also helpful for people with neuropathic (nerve) pain. It is approved by the FDA to treat nerve pain from postherpetic (shingles) neuralgia. It has also been studied and used for treating neuropathic pain from other conditions such as diabetic neuropathy, phantom limb pain, trigeminal neuralgia, and spinal cord injury.
