How should I take divalproex ER?

You should take divalproex ER exactly as directed by your doctor. Typically, this will be once daily. The medication can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food can minimize stomach irritation. Since this medication is extended-release, you should not crush it, break it or chew it. Divalproex ER should be taken at the same time every day. You should not stop taking divalproex ER until you speak with your doctor.
