When you use ipratropium by inhaler or nebulizer to treat your symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), you should notice an improvement in your symptoms within about 15 minutes. The effect of the medication should last between two and four hours. A nasal spray containing ipratropium also should start relieving your symptoms within about 15 minutes.
