What are the side effects of hydrocortisone valerate cream?

When first using hydrocortisone valerate cream, you may notice burning, itching, or peeling at the site of application. If these side effects don't go away as you continue to use the medication or get worse, contact your doctor. Also let your doctor know right away if you experience any of the following side effects, as they may be signs of a medical emergency:

  • an allergic reaction such as hives or an itchy rash, swelling around the mouth or face, or chest tightness and difficulty breathing
  • blurred vision
  • insomnia or fatigue
  • puffiness in the face or weight gain
  • stretch marks or thinning of the skin
  • discoloration of the skin
  • acne
  • unusual or unwanted hair growth
  • bumps around the base of your hair follicles
