An abdominoplasty surgery is performed to remove excess skin and fat below the umbilicus and tighten the inner abdominal muscles. Only Board Certified Plastic Surgeons should perform this surgery. It should be performed under general anesthesia in a licensed surgery center. The optimal candidate is a female that is finished having children with significant pannus of skin, and rectus diastasis. I perform this surgery every week and have seen very happy patients consistently. The major trade off is the scarring along the lower abdomen (such as a cesarean scar) extending from hip to hip and around the umbilicus.
