Can I tell if I am having twins during the 1st trimester of pregnancy?

Yes, it is possible to determine whether or not you are pregnant with twins during the 1st trimester. Usually you do not receive an ultrasound until week 11, 12, or 13. However, if you have been taking fertility drugs, they may give you an ultrasound within the 1st eight weeks to see if you are carrying more than one child. Also, if you are growing larger than expected, your doctor may opt for an early ultrasound to identify twins. Even ultrasounds though are flawed and cannot always identify twins early in the pregnancy.
