Donna Hill Howes, RN, Administrator, answeredHeart failure symptoms usually start very slowly at first. You might notice that you have difficulty breathing while you are physically active or during exercise. Then, after awhile, you may have shortness of breath even when lying down. Some people get symptoms of heart failure all of a sudden after they have a heart attack. With heart failure, you may experience swelling of the ankles and feet, an increase or decrease in weight, abdominal swelling, cough, shortness of breath with exercise and activity or when lying down, weakness and fatigue, feeling faint, palpitations (fluttering or pounding in the chest), little appetite, and indigestion. You may also have a low production of urine, nausea, vomiting and a greater need to urinate at night.Helpful? 1 person found this helpful.
