During my regular 6 month checkup with Dr. Freilich, I told him that my primary doctor found my iron level very low. Knowing that I had an aortic stint and suffered from Barrett’s syndrome, Dr. Freilich told me to contact my gastroenterologist right away, as there might be some internal issues that needed to be addressed immediately. As a result of Dr. Freilich’s astuteness, my gastroenterologist performed an endoscopy and found that I have esophageal cancer. The cancer is now in remission as the result of chemotherapy and radiation. Because of Dr. Freilich’s urging, the cancer was found early, as I wasn’t scheduled for an endoscopy for another year!
