Beyond lending his voice and expert opinion to address the challenges Black females face around hair texture, skin color, and beauty politics in the documentary, Dark Girls, Dr. Boutelle can and has also seen me during a pandemic and a wave of cumulative violences that assault my senses as a black female and professional. He compels me to remember that I have (a) soul, which, blessedly, makes me eternal, indestructible, and incessantly worthy of love, joy, and fun. His capacity to do so weekly is nothing short of a feat, one fostered by his extraordinary capacity for grace, humor, and a commitment to seeing others - even if (now) on a screen.
