I don't live in DC any more, but Dr. Gao is a part of it that I miss acutely. She rescued me from a debilitating bout of back pain that had kept me in bed for a week (25 years ago, I had two back surgeries). She was methodical about dealing with my pain, and the best part? No drugs. She also prescribed Chinese herbs that did not impair, or, so as far as I could tell, didn't affect my ability to continue working. In previous back incidents, I had painkillers which were also work-killers.
