After meeting with her regularly, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Spivey! I think having the right expectations of a psychiatrist is extremely important. In my experience, psychiatrists are analytical thinkers and not warm and fuzzy. They are medical doctors, which is what I was looking for. I am a feeler, and I have a counselor for the warm fuzzies I need. Dr. Spivey IS very analytical and she is soft-spoken, which I find soothing in our chaotic world. I like that she takes the time to absorb what I say. Her replies are always thoughtful and relevant. She has a quiet warmth and empathy that is an unexpected delight. I actually look forward to my visits with her. She discusses my concerns with me and asks probing questions. I have found her to be knowledgeable about medication options and about individual medications without looking them up. Which is what I was looking for! She also provides insight into my diagnoses. I feel like I have a true mental health partner in Dr. Spivey.
