Dr. Nicolas Berger is a 5 star colorectal surgeon. I met Dr. Berger in the ER of Sacred Heart in early February of 2022. After my MRI at Sacred Heart, Dr. Berger told me what needed to be done and assured me that my life would return to normal after the two surgeries. I had a severe case of diverticulitis and Dr. Berger removed 13 inches of my large intestine that was infected. I had a stoma for 13 weeks. On May 17th Dr. Berger performed a successful loop ileostomy closure. During these three months I got to know Dr. Berger very well. It is in this capacity that I share my evaluation of Dr. Berger as a surgeon and person. I appreciate many qualities about Dr. Berger. The top three qualities I appreciate about Dr. Berger are his sincere care for his patient’s health, that he is a highly skilled surgeon, and his confidence in the fact that his skills and expertise would result in my return to health. Dr. Berger truly cares about my health and me as a person. When I was in the hospital after my first surgery, Dr. Berger checked on me every morning. He listened closely to my concerns and answered every question. His bedside manners are second to none. As an educator for 32 years, I could tell that Dr. Berger truly cared about my health and doing everything possible to get my healthy “life back.” During office visits after my two surgeries, Dr. Berger continued to answer all my questions and was incredibly reassuring that my health would be better restored. Unlike other doctors, Dr. Berger was always punctual with his office visits. Another awesome characteristic I appreciate with Dr. Berger is his attention to meticulous details. Dr. Berger was always willing to explain everything about every procedure and what to expect. I had a catheter placed after the first the surgery as I had a fistula. When I talked to Dr. Carlos the urologist, Dr. Carlos spoke very highly of Dr. Berger and Dr. Berger’s skills as a surgeon. Dr. Carlos went onto say that he and Dr. Berger make a great team. What a blessing to have two caring, top-notch surgeons putting my plumbing back together! Lastly, I appreciate Dr. Berger’s confidence in his work and his confidence that my health would be returned. From nailing the exact amount of time in both surgeries, to all the details post surgery; Dr. Berger has been correct with everything. Dr. Berger’s confidence is contagious as I am feeling the best I have in years. Another blessing is Dr. Berger’s nurse who shares all the same qualities as Dr. Berger. A matter of fact many people said when my staples were going to be removed, one or two would be painful. Never happened with Emily. I didn’t feel anything as she pulled all my staples out. Dr. Berger and Emily make another great team?? In summary, if you are looking for a surgeon that truly cares, is extremely meticulous for details and radiates with confidence, look no further than Dr. Berger to return to you to perfect health.
