I am an endocrinologist and laboratory scientist interested in the ways the body stores and metabolizes nutrients. My lab uses animal models and human clinical trials to understand the effects of diet (e.g. ketogenic, HFCS) and cancer on the metabolic pathways that control fat and muscle mass. My clinical practice is focused on conditions that are associated with the loss of skeletal muscle mass (low testosterone, diabetes, fatty liver disease, cancer cachexia, etc), and I am eager to develop strategies/treatments that protect muscle.
