Dr. Shepherd's Background


Jessica Shepherd, MD, MBA, is a gynecologist and Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecology at UIC, specializing in endometriosis, fibroid, robotics, and surgical approaches to gynecologic diseases. Dr. Shepherd has multiple publications include a book chapter on Prevention and Management of Laparoscopic Complications and she has also written in various journals including Women's Day, LifeScript.com, Heart and Soul, Best Health and WebMD. She also appeared on televised news programs to discuss women's health issues. Her training in advanced laparoscopic surgery has made her an advocate for educating women on their options for minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Shepherd has given lectures nationally and internationally on fibroids and myomectomies and is motivated to treat many of these patients with a minimally invasive approach. In addition to her position at UIC, Dr. Shepherd serves as Founder of Her Viewpoint, a healthcare community dedicated to empowering women to obtaining optimal healthcare. Dr. Shepherd received her MBA from the University of Louisville. She completed her fellowship in gynecologic endoscopy and minimally invasive surgery at the University of Louisville College of Medicine and her residency in obstetrics and gynecology from Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Shepherd is a Junior Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and serves as Junior Fellow District V Chair as well as a member of the Gynecologic Practice Committee from 2010-2012. She serves on the ad hoc review committee for the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology and AAGL Minimally Invasive Research Consortium and is an avid member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. She won the prestigious IRCAD award in 2010 and was the 3rd place recipient of the Jay M. Cooper Award that same year. She is currently the Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecology at UIC where she trains residents in laparoscopy and gynecologic surgery. Her involvement with various foundations as a board member has allowed her to actively make decisions in the women's health realm. She serves on the board of the Multicultural Leadership Committee of the American Heart Association and also the Women's Health Foundation. As a health expert for Poise and Change The Cycle of Hologic, she uses her expertise to help women understand their health conditions and how to address them appropriately.
