About Me

Dr. George Fuhrman joined the Ochsner team in 1994 and has held many leadership roles. He served as Section Head of General Surgery, as Director of the Tansey Breast Center and as Residency Program Director for Surgery. In 2006 he moved to Georgia to serve as Director of Graduate Medical Education and Program Director for Surgery at Atlanta Medical Center. He returned to Ochsner in 2012. He served as President of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery, as Vice President of the Southeastern Surgical Congress and is currently a member of the surgery residency review councel that provides oversight and accreditation for surgical training in the US. Dr. Fuhrman has authored over 70 journal articles and was editor of the acclaimed M.D. Anderson Handbook for Surgical Oncology. His interest in education extends to patient care as he involves patients in decision making.
