We met Dr. Stiner when he was the on-duty neurosurgeon at Kaiser. My mom was just admitted for a biopsy of her spine, as it looked as if her breast cancer had returned and spread to her spine. They discovered a more serious issue in my mom's cervical spine when they did an MRI. Dr. Stiner gave us the blunt facts about the surgery, and it sounded very difficult considering the cancer we had to deal with. As my mom got worse, losing function in her legs and hands, we knew we had to do the surgery. Dr. Stiner was amazing. The surgery was successful, and went exactly as he said it would. He even spent time with my husband and me after 7 hours of surgery to reassure us everything went well. My mom is fused from C1 to T1, but has functioning back in her hands and legs. Dr. Stiner truly saved her from a wheelchair.
