I am a patient who has sickle cell. One of the toughest things about having sickle cell, is that I am very rarely taken seriously. When I first meet Dr. Thotakura, I thought it was going to be the same old thing but she is the first hematologist/oncologist that has treated me like a patient is supposed to be treated and taken serious. When I go to most hospitals in the area, one of the first things they do is put me on drug watch because of the stigma and abuse of non sickle cell patients trying to get drugs. She didn’t do any of that! She is the first doctor to actually listen and try to help! Long story short, her and her staff are the most caring and knowledgeable when it comes to their craft. Most sickle cell patients know it’s hard to find people who actually take them seriously. Thanks Dr Thotakura!!!!
