I felt comfortable and at ease for my first initial visit with an oncologist. I was scared for a week prior to going and once I met with Brooke his nurse practitioner and then him, I knew I had the right team. I had a family member who is also a DO like Bartels and he was very impressed with his competence, knowledge, and bedside manner. Listened. Asked ME questions not just talked his spiel at me. The only downside to this cancer center is that there is no true “clinical navigator”. These are nurses or higher level trained medical assistants who have the specific knowledge to guide the patient through the many diff. hoops of cancer care and are available to call and get clarification on these nexts steps. He has a medical assistant but they have very simple, basic knowledge & are spread very thin. This is the only thing that made me nervous-who will be available to explain things to me in btwn my appts w/o my having to wait 24-48 hrs? But I think Dr Bartels could still be worth it.
