If you want a top-notch diagnostician and surgeon, Dr. Ruckenstein is your guy. If you're looking for hand-holding and overt compassion, perhaps you should look elsewhere. I am a retired medical writer and I can assure you that we're fortunate to have Dr. Ruckenstein at HUP. He is truly an expert in his field. For me, he figured out that I was suffering from Vestibular Migraine, not Ménière's disease that had been diagnosed earlier. The two ailments present almost identically. With the accurate diagnosis, I was able to see a neurologist and get the proper medication. It changed my life. Dr, Ruckenstein is attentive, but may seem abrupt because he will not engage in pointless talk. He doesn't waste time....that's because so many people are on a wait list to see him. He's that good.
