I went to Dr. K in the late 90's after and M.I. Cath encountered a totally occluded RCA and 90% occlusion of the circumflex. I was 49 years old. Really tough RCA occlusion couldn't be crossed even though he made multiple attempts. Although bypass surgery was recommended, I declined and followed a program of 6 week round of strong antibiotic, extreme cholesterol control including the new wonder drug Lipitor, weight loss, BP control, Niacin for HDL, and hiking uphill. The disease was in total remission in 5 years, I developed collateral vascularization bypassing my RCA blockage and was hiking 10,000 feet of elevation per week at one point. Back to Dr. K. He was supportive of my choices and we continued non-interventional diagnostics and medication over several years. I discontinued with him after moving from the Seattle area. I'm now 73 and have lived a normal active life since. I'm one of those "White Crows" to the profession that has lived normally with CAD without surgery.
