What Is Epilepsy?
Epilepsy is a nervous system disorder and there are three different types of it. In this video, family physician Sharecare Advisory Board member Daniel Spogen, MD, describes each type of epilepsy and what happens in seizures of each kind.

So epilepsy is a disorder of the nervous system. It's where nerves are firing inappropriately. There are three basic types of epilepsy.
We have grand mal seizures, by the way seizures and epilepsy can be used interchangeably.
So we have the grand mal seizures, that's where the whole body shakes, a person's unconscious. We have the partial seizures which it may be
limited to one limb, may affect just certain parts of the thinking. And then we have the petit mal type seizures, which are really
a blanking out of the memory system more than anything, and there are no motor involvements with that. So basically three types
