Read Transcript

Hi, I'm Dr. Oz. Hemorrhoids may be the butt of jokes but if you've ever had one you know they are no laughing matter. These painful and persistent intruders pop up and out of your rectum when you have chronic constipation. Excess pressure on the lower intestines can also cause hemorrhoids, that's why they plague pregnant women and the obese.

Inflammatory digestive problems or just sitting around too much can bring them on. About 75% of us will get them. Commonly between the ages of 45 and 65, but you can prevent and rectify hemorrhoids with smart life style changes like these. Drink plenty of water, it helps keep the stool soft.

Increase your fiber intake to 30 plus grams a day. Load your plate with plenty of fruits, vegetables, themes and whole grains. Exercise for at least 30 minutes most days. Don't strain when you go to the bathroom. Instead, take a fiber supplement with cillian husks to help prevent or ease constipation.
