How Can I Help Prevent Endometrial Cancer?

The best way to prevent endometrial cancer is to make sure that there is that bounce of estrogen and progesterone, and there are a lot of different ways to do that. Hormonal contraception is one very simple thing that women can do because we know that women that take any hormonal contraception whether it's a birth control pill or maybe a vaginal ring or a patch are going to have a nice balance of estrogen and progesterone.

And when they take estrogen and progesterone, [xx], the lining of the uterus is very thin and very inactive, which is why so many women who take birth control pills either get a light period or no period at all. It's also very important of course to keep your weight down. We all know all of the reasons why it's a good idea to not have excess weight, but a lot of women don't put uterine cancer on their list, and it really is at the top of the list for reasons to make sure you can get the extra pounds off.

Another way to reduce the excess extrogen in the lining of the uterus is to use a progesterone IUD. You think of IUD is primarily for contraception but a specific IUD, the mirena IUD has progesterone in it which is slowly released, and actually can thin out the lining of the uterus and I wonder does it prevent uterine cancer, But we're even using in women who have pre cancer changes to reverse those changes.
