I think one of the most important things that a patient can do is to educate themselves. I think it's very important to educate yourself with good information. I always caution my patients about groups of people who are patients, because often times it's a cathartic effect to talk about how bad your disease is, and it makes people feel better. Of course if you're listening to that, it makes you feel worse. And I have had patients who really felt like the end was near, because they listened to somebody else who had bad disease and, I really thought their disease was very easily treatable or reasonably treatable at least, and really you have to be cautious that you get good information. so the tagline from the Athritis foundation is, take control, we can help, and what that means is, get as informed as you possibly can, and make good choices, because if you loose 10 pounds, it's like taking 30 pounds off your knees, that definitely helps with osteoarthritis, it helps with rheumatoid arthritis as wel. Keeping your joints strong that helps your joints as well, and arthritis acquatics class, they're given by the Arthritis foundation.

So if you get good sources of information, and you get as much knowledge as you can, an informed patient is the best patient you can have.
