The Best Way to Sit to Prevent Back Pain

Hi, I'm Dr. Vonda Wright, with a simple tip to improve your posture, and help your back. Practicing good body mechanics when you're sitting or resting can prevent nagging back pain and injuries. If you're seated in a chair, opt for a straight back chair that allows you to sit up straight with your shoulders back and in line with your hips.

If your chair doesn't have a low back support, add your own small pillow or other type of lumbar support. If you're sitting on the floor, keep you feet shoulder width apart when seated. Ideally your knees will be at a 90 degree angle. If your feet don't comfortably rest flat on the floor, use a foot rest.
