Why does my child get sick so often?
Children get sick frequently due to exposure to all kinds of germs, allergens, and other kids. In this Ask the Experts video, Taz Bhatia, MD, discusses how hand washing, sleeping well, and limiting sugar can help keep kids healthy.

Your child may also be getting sick if you're not controlling their diet very well, they have an irregular sleep pattern,
or, again, they're in an environment where they may be exposed to other allergens. Because all of those factors combine together
to lead to a weakened immune system. [MUSIC PLAYING]
Children get sick frequently. And it typically starts right about, you can almost time it, it's usually 4 to 6 weeks after they go back to school.
And the reason is is because exposure. They're exposed to all kinds of germs. They're in classrooms together. They're in activities together.
And they do a great job of passing it to each other. Your child may also be getting sick if you're not controlling
their diet very well, they have an irregular sleep pattern, or, again, they're in an environment where they may
be exposed to other allergens. Because all of those factors combine together to lead to a weakened immune system.
So to protect your children this season, really remember to tell them to wash their hands. Soap and water is still the best.
Get enough sleep. Watch the sugar. And then if they do seem to get sick, use our prevention strategies to keep them
