Our personalities are mainly determined by genetics and life experiences, but you can still change aspects of your personality by being conscious of your thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Watch psychiatrist Sudeepta Varma, MD, explain this concept.
A lot of people wonder whether or not they can change their personality and for the most part of personality is determined by genetics, or through life experiences that a lot of people are still developing in their 20s up till the age of 30. Now what do you do if you're over the age of 30? Does that mean that you can't change your personality? And that's not the case, in fact when we look at personality, there's three major components, there are thoughts, our emotions and our behaviors.
And by having insight and recognizing that there's some aspect of your personality that's not working and by making worth the effort if you can change at least even one of these, if you change the way you look at things, you may change your behavior and it may change the way you feel about them.
So we absolutely still have stay in being able to change your personality even if you're not 40s or 50s or later in life.
