If you're a cancer survivor, having health insurance can help keep your cancer from recurring, says palliative medicine specialist Dr. Stewart Fleishman. Watch the video to learn more about the benefits of having health insurance.
Well, everybody needs health insurance whether they're a cancer survivor or not, but especially if you've been through cancer treatments, you're going to have a lot of visits left in your life that need to be made. This is to check that you're well through old fashioned histories and physicals, basic legwork and some fancier tests, scans, fancier bloodwork, lots of other things that can get quite expensive without insurance, and if you don't have insurance you're not going for these, this is you're not going to get these tests, and the purpose of those tests is to keep you well to avoid the long standing problems that can come after cancer treatment, and to make sure the cancer is not coming back.
Stewart Fleishman, MD, is a cancer researcher and the author of companion books, LEARN to Live Through Cancer: What You Need to Know and Do and the Manual of Cancer Treatment Recovery: What the Practitioner Needs to Know and Do.
