Grapefruit is rich in lycopene, and lycopene goes into the category of plant carotenoids. These are disease fighting compounds that you can't mimic by popping the multiple vitamin pill. Lycopene has been shown to have numerous benefits, basically we're targeting inflammation. So any chronic disease associated with inflammation is actually going to be lowered when you're increasing your intake of lycopene rich fruits such as in grapefruit or tomatoes.
