Will Strength Training Increase My Metabolism?

Read Transcript

Strength training is so good for you, it's good for your bones, it keeps your muscles strong as you get older, it helps you maintain your independence, it gives your body form and function that you're looking for, and a lot of us forego strength training. Especially women, we tend to be the cardio queens, and the guys tend to do the strength training, so women need to do a little more strength training, men need to do a little cardiovascular work, the aerobic work.

These kinds of exercises help you burn calories, help you stay healthy. They don't have a significant effect on your base of metabolic rate, that's genetic and pretty much what you're born with, but your energy metabolism, how you expend your energy during the day, you can boost that, and strength training and cardiovascular exercise are two really good ways to do that.
