The biggest mistake people make when they're trying to lose weight will surprise you. I don't love skipping meals and starving yourself but really the biggest secret to weight loss or making any behavior change is number one first and foremost, accessing your motivation. On a scale of one to ten, one being you just could give a hoot and ten being you're so excited, you're so motivated that you can't see straight.

If you're not an eight on that scale or above, then it's just not the time to try it either. Start an exercise program, lose weight, quit smoking, stop drinking whatever it is because if you're not motivated, you're setting yourself up for failure. And then you go back to eating more, drinking more, smoking more and then you feel terrible about yourself and it is this vicious cycle.

So that's the first step, am I motivated to do what it takes to accomplish my goal and if the answer is no I'm really not there is a second part to this a again a secret no one tells you, you have to ask yourself why ain't I motivated? Why don't I want to lose weight? Why don't I want to quite smoking? Why don't I want to start exercising? And not just I don't feel like it, I don't want to take it deeper than that maybe you don't know how to start, maybe you don't know what you should or shouldn't eat, maybe you are afraid of being hungry or deprived, maybe you love food and you are afraid it will affect your social life.

So in terms of weight loss those are some of the questions that come up. If you can't identify the barriers, you can't find a workaround. So identifying your resistance is going to be very helpful in helping you make healthy behavior changes.
