The foods you eat can have a big impact on your blood sugar and energy levels. Watch this video with weight loss expert and Dr. Oz Show guest Samantha Heller to find out how your diet can boost your mood or squash it flat.
Diet has a huge impact on your mood absolutely, and actually in my book which is called, The Get Smart: Samantha Heller's Nutrition Prescription for Boosting Brain Power and Optimizing Total Body Health, I talk about how diet affects your mood a lot. All the foods you eat affect your blood sugar, affect your energy level, affect the neurotransmitters in your brain, that all affects your mood, your energy, how you get through the day.
So foods like, and you'll see this with kids, if you have a sugary-coated, honey, dipped, frosted, chocolate cereal in the morning, it tastes really good when you're have it, and then a couple of hours later what happens? You start to crush, you get tired, your eyes start rolling back in your head, you're not focusing well, your kids if they're eating this in the morning they start melting down at school, they get cranky, they're not doing well and what happens?
You dive for the nearest doughnut cart because you need to get that energy boost again, and that starts a roller-coaster of energy high blood sugar, low blood sugar, low energy, high energy, over time that'll make you cranky, that'll make you gain weight, and it can increase your risk for chronic disease.
So what you eat has a huge effect on your mood.
